Lindsay Phillips’ footwear concept evolved from a high school art project which was ceramic flip flops. Amazed by the response, Lindsay Phillips began designing functional flip flops with colourful straps, each adorned by a unique button.

Her idea evolved when she realized that by using Velcro she could create one shoe with many straps. This simple, yet brilliant innovation was the birth of SwitchFlops. Lindsay Phillips applied for a patent on her idea before she graduated high school.

During her college years Lindsay Phillips perfected her interchangeable design and her worldwide travels gave her inspiration for her strap designs.

Lindsay Phillips honed her design, merchandising and manufacturing skills working summers at Polo Ralph Lauren. After her patent was granted in 2004, she joined forces with her mother, Liz, to start her business and find a manufacturer. SwitchFlops made its retail debut in January 2007 in Orlando where it was showcased as a new and innovative product. Orders started rolling in and explosive growth followed.

With the amazing variety of SwitchFlops strap designs and sandals, Lindsay's dream of changing from beach casual to a formal affair in a matter of seconds was realised.

How do I clean my SwitchFlops®?

When it's time to spruce up your SwitchFlops®, it is easy to restore them to almost new condition. Simply remove the decorative straps and place them (Lulu and Taylor only) in your washing machine on the delicate cycle. Then air-dry the sandals overnight. If a strap becomes soiled, it should be hand washed to avoid damaging the decorative ribbon or button. Lilly Kitten Heels can be wiped down with a damp cloth

Why don't my straps fit correctly on my sandals?

First note that SwitchFlops straps come in three sizes: small, medium, and large. Small straps fit shoe sizes 2 and 3. Medium straps fit shoe sizes 4 and 5 and large straps fit shoe sizes 6, 7 and 8. If your shoe size and corresponding strap do not match the strap will not look right.

Also please note that there is a left and a right side to each strap. To ensure proper fit attach the shorter end of the strap to the inside portion of the sandal. If you are confused, fold the strap in half to determine which is the shorter portion.

How do I choose the best fit?

Please visit our size chart. We’ve included International Size conversion information. Please also note that the size marked inside the SwitchFlops strap will be the American size which on this product is 2.5 sizes larger (for open shoes) than the UK. This means if your shoe states "8" it is a UK "5.5".
