2) Go to the brand of your chosen sole / shoe to choose from the uppers available - Nooshooz, Onesole or SwitchFlops currently with other brands being added soon!

What are interchangeable shoes?

You have one pair of soles but there is no fixed upper to the shoe, instead you can wear different tops. Yes that means less to pack on holiday or to clutter your wardrobe. The tops you choose must be made by the brand of the shoe sole to fit. Some work on velcro, some are poppers etc. They are all easy to swap over. Some like Bare Sole you can customise however you like by making your own straps. With all the brands apart from Nooshooz, the uppers match different sole designs so you can have a flatter pair for the day and a more glamorous heel for the evening reusing any of your uppers. Brilliant!

Slinks sandals by Jane Rafter - another interchangeable shoes brand shown on Dragons Den

We regularly get asked if these are the Slinks sandals designed by Jane Rafter that were shown on TV in 2009 as part of Dragon's Den. Marta, founder of Swap Top Shoes the website, gets asked all the time if she is the lady with the interchangeable sandals that was on Dragons Den but her forte is online retail rather than designing shoes. However she knows a damn good idea when she sees one and Marta had discovered Onesole and SwitchFlops interchangeable shoes brands via the Pure tradeshow in London earlier that year. Marta was building the www.swaptopshoes.com website when the Dragons Den programme about the wedding style sandals with interchangeable uppers first aired on TV and was excited to potentially have another brand to add to swaptopshoes.com but it didn't come to fruition. It's great that the concept got brought to life and got promoted. Must be a good idea as two of the Dragons were keen to back the interchangeable sandals designs from Jane Rafter.

Shoelery – make your feet look gorgeous!

Shoelery is another great concept which adds glamour or attitude to any footwear. If you feel like a change but don’t have much change in your purse we can help. Marta Eleniak, founder of Swap Top Shoes and onceuponabelt.com has launched the first websites in the UK to sell ‘shoelery’ – accessories to transform your existing sandals, shoes or boots.

Marta says: “New shoes often hurt like hell and my feet just don’t like most shoe designs although I love the new shoe trends. I had to give up on buying sexy shoes as I could not get through more than an hour with them on. What do they say? Wear tight shoes and forget all your troubles. We don’t all have model feet.”

“I thought why not do a belt for ankles and the idea grew from there. They say your shoes are the first thing people notice about you when you walk into a room, so now there’s no excuse not to make a good impression.”

Keeping the transformation interchangeability theme Marta commissioned some black ankle corsets made using vintage or rare lace which have ribbon-ties you can swap for ribbons in other colours to match your outfit – see photos above:
